On Sunday 20th July 2008 parents and swimmers, alongside members of St. John Ambulance took part in a sponsored swim. The swim was to raise money to purchase an Automated External Defribulator. This life saving equipment has now been purchased by the Amalfi team at St John. (a group of 15 - 18 year old St John members)
Thanks must also go to Sainsbuy's Local for providing the refreshments
Swimmers did a fantastic job raising over £600.00
A huge thank you from Tom Gresty and St John Ambulance to Laura and Kayleigh for organising the event which ran very smoothly and was enjoyed by all.
On Sunday 15th April 2007 staff, swimmers and
parents took part in a sponsored swim. This swim
was to raise money for the charity
Children with Leukaemia. Staff and parents were
ready with their mark sheets to count the lengths.
Swimmers were able to count this towards their
next distance badge provided the swim was overseen
by a teacher. Tom Gresty was kept very busy!
It was good to see families arrive and swim together.
Everyone was included and some of the younger
swimmers put their discs on and just kept going.
Over £518.00 was raised and sent off with more sponsorship money coming in later or being sent direct to the charity.
A huge thank you to all who took part from Tom Gresty and his team.
December 2005 Sponsored swim
Swimmers and parents at the Tom Gresty swim school swam together along side staff to raise £1388.12 for the Warwickshire Air Ambulance. Event co-ordinator, Laura Thomas, 16, said, “ During my work experience at the Coventry Airport Fire Station I witnessed at first hand the Air Ambulance base and decided to combine my love of swimming with a fundraising event.”
Swimmers aged from 4 to 70 set out to swim the
equivalent of the English Channel, a distance of 21 miles,
over the course of one hour. The eventual total was,
in fact, an impressive 51.7 miles – more than double
the width of the Channel.
Jo Payne Fundraising Manager came to receive the cheque and meet some of the swimmers as the helicopter ironically was called to respond in Rugby that morning. Jo said, “As we get no financial support from the Government or National Lottery, we are extremely grateful to all the staff for their hard work and especially Laura for organising it. Well done to the swimmers and thanks to all who gave so generously in sponsorship – It really will help save lives.”
Swim school owner Tom Gresty added, “I am proud of Laura and would like to thank her and everybody who took part in this smashing event in aid of the Air Ambulance.”
