One short blast - To attract the attention of all teachers, pupils and parents.
One long blast – To alert teachers and swimmers to 'stop and be aware of a
problem.
Two long blasts – To signify emergency. All swimmers to clear the pool.
Three long blasts – Indicates all teachers, swimmers and parents to vacate the
pool and building via authorised routes under the guidance of staff.
All pool users should be made aware of ‘Emergency Fire Procedures@ relating to the safe exit of the building and going to the designated assembly area adjacent to the Bursar’s Office.All teachers are given an ‘Information Pack’, which contains Emergency Procedure, Code of Ethics, Procedures and Guidelines for the protection of children’ and information relating to the Teaching of Swimming.A basket of ‘disc’ swimming aids will be available on the poolside for issuing to swimmers who are still in need of floatation aids. A ‘First Aid’ box is available on poolside which is kept up to date by the nominated First Aiders.The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety rescue equipment is ready for use, consisting of ‘Rescue pole, life belt, throwing rope and floats’.The Lifeguard and teachers must equally ensure any equipment not in use is kept clear of poolside walkways. At the commencement of lessons, the lifeguard should be positioned close to the exit from the boys changing rooms to ensure no swimmers runs out onto the poolside straight into deep water. Any teachers not involved in teaching at ‘changeover’ times should place themselves close to the girls changing room to ensure a similar accident does not occur.Prior to employment by the Tom Gresty Swim School prospective teachers will be requested to provide proof of teaching qualifications. They may also be asked to agree to complete a ‘Disclosure Application Form’ to be sent to the CRB if the Swim School feels it necessary.All teachers will be expected to have a though understanding of both the ‘Code of Ethics’ and the ‘ A.S.A.’s Child Protection in Swimming’ guidelines and procedures. Parents and swimmers to be warned of occasional excessive temperatures of the showers. ALL vehicles belonging to parents and staff MUST be left in the Nursery car park and NOT in the area adjacent to the pool
